Confession time …. I really cringe when I look back at some of the blogs I wrote when I first started my business and how I used to talk when I had my ‘business hat’ on.

Why?  Cause it was sounded like I swallowed a business encyclopedia & was trying super hard to impress with fancy pants words & jargon!   But it turns out it has the opposite effect … you just end up sounding boring, stuffy & erm … lame!  

It’s totally worth remembering that your potential clients and customers are REAL people, so come on just speak normally & connect with them as you are … a real person too!  

Like yesterday for example, I was sitting in a coffee shop in Bali getting stuck into next month’s Book Club book.  I actually laughed out loud at what the author Pam was saying & it felt like she was right there with me … talking to ME & only ME!   I’d bet my son’s new Star Wars figure that if I met her in person … she’d be like the person I already feel like I know!  

So the next time you’re writing something for your business … a tweet, an e-mail, a blog, your website stuff … anything … just write it the way you actually speak!  

I promise, it’ll be so much quicker & easier to let it all flow out of you …. and even better it probably not make people turn & run a mile … or even worse … click off your webpage or just delete your email … yes how could they?!?!  

Then when the time comes & you actually get to speaking to some of those people who may want to work with you or buy your amazing ‘stuff’, you’re not having to be anything else apart from YOU, because they’ll already know you … your style … your personality!

And if they don’t like the way you write or speak … does it even really matter?  Because the chances are they’d never be your ideal customers or clients anyway.  

But does it mean you can forget your Ps & Qs … erm not at all!    You can still be professional & human at the same time … plus injecting in some fun too 🙂

That’s why I’m loving the world of Snapchat these days, as it lets you do that all in ‘real time’ … with pictures, short videos & a few words.   Ok I know it’s taken me a bit of time to get with it & I’ve probably went a tad overboard snapping away … especially over the last 24 hours.
